The 2023 Design Intelligence Award Ceremony was held in Liangzhu Campus at China Academy of Art on December 15, 2023. The“Health Font - A Phonetic-based Braille Input Font" from Alibaba Health (China) Technology Company Limited and the "BrainRobotics Mini Hand" from Zhejiang Qiangnao Technology Co., Ltd won the Gold Award, the highest prize. At the ceremony, “DIA Project”, a DIA key project in 2024, was released, and the 2024 DIA Call for Entry was also launched.

Intelligent Activation Design and Endless Creativity
The Design Intelligence Award (DIA) is the first international academy award in China's industrial design field jointly sponsored by Zhejiang Provincial People's Government and China Academy of Art. At the initiative of Mr. Li Qiang in 2014, DIA was founded in 2015 and launched in 2016, and 2024 marks the 10thanniversary. Over the years, DIA has gradually evolved into the most influential industrial design competition in China with the aim of professionalism, internationality and forward-looking, and has become a crucial platform for the global design community to exchange intelligent design and design wisdom.

Since the 2023 DIA was launched, we have received more than 7,000 entries from 41 countries and regions around the world, and a total of 336 works from 19 countries and regions were shortlisted, among which 30 outstanding works were shortlisted in the Final and 306 works were selected for the Honorable Mention Award. Among all the shortlisted works, overseas works account for 43%, 67% are globally debuted, and 60% represent unreleased products. Additionally, pioneering projects in fields such as artificial intelligence and brain-computer interface as well as ongoing laboratory projects account for 30%. The exhibitors include not only the leading enterprises of advanced manufacturing industry around the globe, but also major laboratories and well-known design colleges at home and abroad. The short-listed works cover the latest industrial ideas and cutting-edge designs in the world, showing a new trajectory where digital technology and tangible industries engage in a joint effort for mutual advancement.

Digital - Reality Symbiosis · for the Future of Intelligence
In March 2023, DIA joined hands with 38 international designer organizations, art colleges at home and abroad, and digital technology and advanced manufacturing enterprises to launch the Design Intelligence Union (DIU). By the end of November, the membership has expanded to encompass 60 enterprises. Today, the DIU Headquarters (Shanghai) Base was released. Guided by the four-dimensional integration of "art, science, business and education" and by means of intelligent design integration and innovation, it aims to create a globally influential platform for exchanges and cooperation, build a cross-industry network that deeply integrate design innovation and intelligent manufacturing industries, and foster the optimal innovation ecosystem for intelligent design and intelligent manufacturing. In the future, DIU will continue to uphold the concept of "openness, innovation, collaboration and sharing", attract the extensive participation of multiple subjects at home and abroad, and carry out the exploration and practice in collaborative innovation of "government, industry, university, research and application" under the guidance of intelligent and information technology, so as to realize a wider range of social cooperation and make greater contributions to industrial upgrading and social progress.
DIA Project based on the Ten-year Development

At the Ceremony, the “DIA Project” is officially launched. This three-year undertaking aims to retrospect the development history of design intelligence and inspire innovative drives for the future by launching the "DIA Case Study and Publishing Project", "'DIA Decade' Ten-year Major Exhibition Project" and "DIA Industry Demonstration Project". It includes systematically refining the concept of "design intelligence”, the in-depth research and publication of nearly 2,000 excellent works in the past ten years, especially more than 300 gold, silver and bronze award works, designer teams and industry trends, as well as exhibitions of the cases in the past then years; It also includes the construction and operation of permanent DIA Expo Gall, the DIU Operation Headquarters and the Design Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Demonstration Base.

Health Font - A Phonetic-based Braille Input Font
The Gold Award work “Health Font - A Phonetic-based Braille Input Font" is an exploratory product that uses the power of design to connect vision and touch, break the language barrier and convey the concept of equality. Based on the real-time Chinese-Braille translation function, the design team has designed 1001 life design cases needed by visually impaired people in their whole life, which fills the blank of Braille on drug packaging in the field of medical and health care. With simple and clear design language, the overall packaging uses AI technology to realize the innovative expression from the words in the dreams of visually impaired people to video images, which embodies the humanistic care of technology. In the context of the deepening digital divide and the tide of science and technology, a large number of vulnerable groups are excluded from the scope of inclusive design, and the power of design needs to be applied to social welfare and social change, providing support and help for vulnerable groups through design, and bringing positive influence to society.

BrainRobotics mini hand
The Gold Award work "BrainRobotics mini hand" has made innovations on the basis of traditional metal hooks and static prostheses, breaking through the limitation when performing preset gestures through physical buttons or rockers. Compared with the conventional prosthesis, the intelligent bionic hand integrates AI technology and personalized programming function. By capturing the muscle signals from the EMG sensor of the residual limb and converting them into movements, the amputee can intuitively perform the expected gestures and movements.
